The Pazyryk Persian carpet, the oldest known carpet in the world, was discovered in 1949 during an archaelogic dig in Siberia in the grave of a prince. It is believed to have been made in the 5th century BC. Persian carpet-weaving is thought to date back to ancient Persia in 3,500 BC.
Ceramic tiles have been made for about 4,000 years. Tiled surfaces have been found in ancient ruins of Greek cities as well as in pyramids.
